Doula Profile for Becky

Becky

Birth Doula

I come to the role of birth doula out of profound desire to stand beside birthing women and their partners in moments of strength and moments of struggle alike.  With informed, compassionate support during labor and birth, comfort and confidence can take the place of fear and worry and make the passage into parenthood a positive part of a family’s story.

The births of my two daughters inspire my decision to work as a birth.  My first daughter was born premature and had to stay in the hospital for two weeks.  My second daughter was in a breech position and was born by cesarean after six weeks of bed rest.  I would not have chosen the circumstances surrounding my daughters’ births, yet I see both births as glowingly positive events – the most incredible days of my life!  I know my perception is largely due to the support I received before, during, and after their births.

I am excited to share some of the support I have been so fortunate to receive with other birthing families.  Staying in tune with the unique circumstances of each birth, I strive to offer encouragement, information, and practical help, thus empowering women and couples to make active decisions about the ways their children enter the world.  I fully respect women’s choices regarding the location of their births, the use of pain medication, and the way in which they give birth.  I encourage partners to participate fully in the birth, backing them up with strategies and reassurance.  I believe that there are many valid routes to giving birth; a successful birth is one that ends with a healthy and satisfied family.

I have completed DONA birth doula training and am gaining the experience required for certification.
