Birth Doula, Childbirth Educator
I am a doula, a childbirth educator, an activist and most importantly, I am a mother of three amazing kids. I have two beautiful girls, ten and almost three. I gave birth to my son on September 30th of 2007.
I have worked in women’s wellness as a massage therapist for the last decade. Three years ago I decided to begin doing birth work after the birth of my second baby. I took a hiatus from school where I was majoring Women’s Studies and Sociology and have been on this path ever since. My own experience with birth, breastfeeding and parenting, as well as my passion for working with and empowering women are what inspired me.
It is my philosophy that it is the right of every mother to have a birth story that begins with support, is centered in instinct, and is fulfilled with a sense of empowerment, healing and joy. I believe that every woman is strong, powerful and instinctively capable of having a positive birth experience. Mothers deserve continuous support and respect for their individual needs and desires, and I honor the many choices that mothers make on the birth path. I welcome the opportunity to work with women from all types of diverse backgrounds. It is an honor and a privilege to stand alongside them on this sacred journey.
I am passionate about my work with expectant and growing families. I have experience supporting families in a variety of situations including single mothers, GLBT families, inductions, cesarean birth, abuse survivors, unexpected medical outcomes, high-risk, and medication-free births. I bring my love and commitment for my own family into the lives of every family I serve.
I am an activist and a feminist and am committed to working to make America’s maternity healthcare system truly mother and baby friendly through education, advocacy and activism. I am most proud of the work I do as a co-organizer for BOLD, Birth On Labor Day. BOLD is a grassroots group that uses the Arts to celebrate women-centered birth, honor diversity, and create space for a woman to make empowered choices about her birth experience.
I am a DONA International certified Birth Doula and a CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator. I have been a certified Massage Therapist since 1999. I am also working toward certification as a Lactation Educator through CAPPA, and am currently in a program to become a Certified Professional Midwife. I am a member of DONA International, CAPPA, The Colorado Doula Association and the Colorado Midwives Association.
