Birth & Postpartum doula
“I believe in the divine possibility that women can create a powerful, peaceful and magical place for themselves during this incredible rite of passage, we call labor and birth ”
Why I do this work:
I believe in and have a huge passion for assisting women and their partners during this wonderful experience and transition in life. I enjoy helping teach women to gain the knowledge and tools so they can achieve their idea of a “dream” birth. My goal is to help each laboring woman trust her body and her own intuition each step of the way. I act as both a coach and an advocate in the hospital setting. I want to continually present a NEW conversation around birthing. I hope to forever erase the image of a powerless frightened person that we have grown accustomed to seeing in movies and TV and replace this with the reality of a birth filled with calm, serenity and power from within.
Labor Doula Support:
Since 1993 I have been coaching women and I approach each birth as a one of a kind experience. I custom fit my skills to help you achieve your dream birth. This includes working with families with a variety of beliefs and needs. I have assisted families with VBAC's, c-sections,scheduled inductions, water births, hypno-births, medicated and non-medicated births. I help create a positive environment, where trust, calm and creativity prevail for a laboring woman. I present positive birth possibilities thru, massage, position changes, continual verbal reassurance and on going education.
Experience in Birth:
I was a practicing doula before I knew what the word meant. I had the privilege of attending 5 births with friends and family before I was certified. I realized how much I enjoyed the role of teacher, coach, and providing suggestions for position changes, hands on massage and general information during the birth process. I enjoyed seeing how a woman who is encouraged to trust herself through this process is extremely empowered both during and after this intense and joyful experience. I've given birth 3 times and chose to have un-medicated births. I also bring this knowledge to my work. However, I believe each woman must decide for herself what kind of birth she desires. She can do this best by educating herself in advance. Part of my role is to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each choice that is made along the way.
Postpartum Doula Support:
As a postpartum doula, since 1993, I have been providing families with in-home guidance and practical hands on support while they transition from expectant parents to parents of a newborn(s). I specialize in breast feeding support for both singleton and twin families. I will help you identify the 5 most important cues of your newborn, as well as strategies to increase “age –appropriate” sleep cycles, during the night. I provide hands on support with meal prep, food shopping, light housekeeping and baby laundry. I am available for daytime, overnight and weekend support.
Cindi is a certified doula through DONA and PALS.
