Birth Doula, Psychotherapist
I came to birth doula work through my training as a Contemplative Psychotherapist. More and more I began to see the link between prenatal and birth experiences, infant mental health, and the well-being of families. It became evident to me that this stage in life deserves much more respectful attention than what is generally provided by the status quo. So I began my journey as a birth doula by receiving necessary training and taking the steps towards certification. I see compassionate prenatal and birth care as the ultimate step towards a healthy and fulfilling life.
With that in mind, I approach my work as a doula with gentleness, openness, flexibility, and joy. I combine my mental health and doula training to provide services which help women make informed and empowered choices; support both the immediate and “big picture” views; act as a sounding board and coach during all stages of pregnancy and birth; recognize the significance of this life transition; and provide an unconditionally warm and accepting presence that reflects the mother’s own strengths and abilities.
As a doula I also believe in the accessibility of services for any woman who requests them. I have significant experience working with persons of minority status and I welcome working with non-traditional families such as same-sex couples, single mothers, and surrogates.
At this time I am working toward DONA certification and developing a private psychotherapy practice in Denver.
